looking at the videos and websites helped me better understand how artist reflect their identity through their art. these works of art can depict what your going through currently and how they affect you. Identity deals with how you and other perceive yourself. The community you live in, culture, and interests all make up your identity. I learned about digital identity. People can seem very different in person than on social media. Then again, some match very well with their digital identity. I've also learned that your identity can change. Life experiences are a huge impact. It shapes our personality, beliefs, and outlook on life. I choose to do my own identity. I knew it was going to be hard, and it was. I really had to think on how I wanted to do this. I started with a sketch of how I wanted to do this. My plan was to draw a self portrait and have different parts of my face be morphed with how I look through out the years. I got a really cool idea where I could reuse some old art. This is a self portrait that I did when I had Mrs Davis for art. I was a freshmen at the time, so my looks have changed. This is a selfie that I took for this project. I wanted a good picture of how I currently look. My plan changed from the beginning. Instead of drawing in pieces of my face at different ages, I decided to draw this picture on top of my old self portrait. Here is the final product! It was hard to draw on top of my old drawing. I couldn't erase any parts because I had sprayed it. However, I wanted my old drawing to show through so you could still compare them. I added color into the background to represent my creativeness and my positive attitude. The black is India ink. It shows my depression and the bad in my life that has affected me. It leaves scars not physically, but emotionally This whole process in itself was even more meaningful. Making something old, new and getting to reflect on my past.

For this journal entry, I chose to do something with graduation. I'm so excited to move on with the next part of my life and experience new things. I did this in chalk pastels, the quote, and 2016 is written with a calligraphy marker. I thought the quote was very fitting. After high school, we are free to go where we want. However, it's more important to go where we truly want to and be passionate about it. For my journal, I decided to do something to the cover. I really liked the idea that Mrs. Hein showed us, putting a mask on the front. I decided to use the one I made for my alternate project since it wasn't finished. This is how it looked originally, just a paper mache mask setting on my journal. I wanted to make it look like metal, so I wrapped it in tinfoil with the shiny side down. I then glued it to the inside of the mask with hot glue. I attached it to my journal with hot glue also. I was inspired by a picture that I found online of a mask with raised lines. I did this to my mask and continued it onto the book with the glue. My next step was to bring out the texture in the tinfoil. I did this by painting the mask black and wiping off the paint when it was still wet. It left me with a more metal look. And here is the finished look! I wanted more color variation in it to make it look really interesting. I have some gold metallic paint that I mixed with orange to make more of a copper color. I dabbed on with my finger in certain areas to add more detail. I painted it on the lines to makes them stand out too. Then I just took straight gold paint and I went over those lines again along with dabbing it on different areas too.
I think this is my most favorite thing that I've done to my Journal. It really does look like metal And it's cooler in person because you can see the metallic paint better. The lines add so much too. It looks like it's one with the book almost as if it's growing onto it. Choices? Goals?
A: Our Identities are based on different life experiences and situations that we have faced throughout our lives. This shapes our beliefs, thoughts, personality, and outlook on life. These experiences and mistakes shape us slightly into new people everyday. Q: How has (your) identity changed over time? A: I have become more confident and outgoing. I like meeting new people, where before I hated it. I try to keep an open mind and think of all of the possibilities. Q: How would you describe your digital identity? A: I would say that my digital identity shows I'm fun, I like new, interesting, creative, and beautiful things. I'm also kind of Choosy. Q: Looking at your social media posts, how does your social media image shape your digital identity? A: I would say that my artistic skills show through my posts. I post my art on social media a lot. What I learned from the films. In this "Artists Solove" and "Limitations" unit, I learned more my second time around compared to last year. One thing I learned was, how limitations are used in artwork. Limitations challenge us to set a goal and try something different that we normally wouldn't do in artwork. Limitations also inspire us by showing that we can still be creative with limits. When limiting ourselves, the whole idea of what to create can be less overwhelming since we have less options. Looking at examples of limitations in art.I saw Some pretty cool examples of limitations in art throughout this unit. These examples inspired me and gave me some ideas what I could do for my final work. I saw pictures that disabled artists created. They overcame their disabilities and kept on creating art in different ways. As artists' disabilities grow stronger, their art work becomes more meaningful. It shows their passion, ambition, creativity and self confidence even more. this makes the art even more appealing to me. I learned that nothing is impossible in the art world, as long as you set your mind to it. "The worst enemy of creativity is self-doubt." -Sylvia Plath Completing the challenges.I really liked the different challenges that we did in class. They were different and they motivated me to get working because I had a goal that I wanted to meet. Goals are something very useful in life. With set goals you are able to accomplish something faster with more excitement. I thought it was even more fun when we had to think of a challenge to do in class. Coming up with a challenge is part of the challenge. I learned that there are so many different ways to express your creativeness when you limit yourself. Final limitations art work. The limitation that I chose was to create something only using candy. However, I was stuck on what I would make. Later, I decided that I would make a self portrait out of skittles. I got the idea from the super bowl commercial of Steven Tyler. I knew this was going to be a challenge but I had a plan! This is one of my senior pictures that I wanted to use. I didn't know where to start different colors on my face to show shadows, so I edited this picture to help me know where to place the skittles. This it my edited reference photo that I used. I cropped it and edited it by changing the contrast. As you can see here, I used mat board and sketched in the picture using a grid to ensure that the placement and proportion were correct. I started with my eye, gluing on skittles with a hot glue gun and worked my way outward. To make smaller details, I cut the skittles in half. If this was done on a bigger scale, I wouldn't have had to do this. So I just kept on gluing. And here is the final Product! The size is 28"x19", so this took 12 big bags of skittles! I'm very happy with how it turned out and that it didn't end up being a complete disaster. Using skittles affected my work with limited colors. I really had to look at shapes to make this work. Each part is just made up of colored shapes. Again, I'm really happy how it ended up and that it even looks like me!
At first I had no clue what to do for my journal. I haven't had time to even think lately with all the stress of getting everything done before graduation and homework. Then I thought, "why don't I just use this stress to my advantage?'' I got the idea to simply express how I feel which is overwhelmed and stressed.
I started by drawing with black and brown pastels in my book. I smeared them around but letting the text show through. After that, I used bursts of color over the dark colors. the text in the background represents my thoughts that are being clouded up by the stress (dark color) and the bursts of color are all the good things that I'm trying to focus on to help me, but it's doing no justice. It just gets consumed by the stress. This was actually interesting to do. I helped me make sense of what's really going on. To give us ideas for our art journal page, Mrs Hein showed us a video on how to make pop ups. I really liked this idea since it was something different. At first, I wasn't sure what to make with this pop up technique. While practicing the pop up, I found that the folds reminded me of a beak. I kept on experimenting and thought "Why only make one opening when I can do multiple?" So, that gave me the idea too make three birds, a momma bird and two baby birds. I first did the openings and then drew birds around the beaks. I colored it in with chalk pastels. As you open and close the page, so do the mouths. There is pink paper taped behind the openings to give it some more dimension and color inside. I wrote in the mouths of the birds to add text. The top one says "Feed me!" The bottom bird says "I'm hungry!'' And the momma says "I just fed you guys!". Overall, I wanted this to be a funny, spring themed page and I think I executed it very well.
To get us started on our journal page, Mrs. Hein had us do a rubbing in our journal, in school. The purple around the edges and the red-orange line in the middle are from two different walls in the ITV room. I decided to fill in the rest of the page with textures that I could find around my house. These rubbings include an air vent, wood detail that was at the corner of our window, a speaker, back of a tv, and another wall. In the corner I wrote crayon works best since it doesn't smear. I thought of using chalk, but I figured that it would create a powder mess and it would probably blend together more. I tried to break up the space by overlapping textures and separating similar colors to create a more interesting composition.
For this project, I chose forced perspective. I chose forced perspective because, I wanted to learn more about it, do something different, and forced perspective just seemed fun. A lot of times, forced perspective is done by altering the scale of objects. Bigger objects look small and smaller objects look bigger. This is simply done by distance, placement, and camera angles. By placing big objects in the background and small objects in the foreground, you can create a realistic yet mind boggling photo. Overall, it's an optical illusion in real life. Here are some examples. This is my forced perspective picture. I took this picture of my friend, with my iPod during lunch. I used the front camera and he stood behind me so we could both see what we were doing. The goal was to make it look like he's peeking over the bottom inside the iPod, or hanging off the edge of the screen. I wanted the iPod as part of the picture so it would look as if he's inside. Over all, it was challenging to come up with an original idea. It's cool how camera angles and object placement can make it an optical illusion. It was fun doing this and seeing the final product. For this journal entry, I chose the theme seasons. I wanted to incorporate more than one season for this picture. So, I got the idea of drawing a tree in summer and fall. I drew this on a white piece of paper with chalk, and a sharpie. The quote that I included reads, "Don't waste the season of life that you are in now because you want the next one to come." I think this can be interpreted in a few different ways. Live in the present and don't wish it away for the future. live in the moment right now so you don't miss out on anything. Or it can mean, appreciate what you have now (such as a season) and enjoy it. |
